In Year R this week the children have been thinking about learning from stories. In maths this week have been doubling. We were really impressed with the children’s recall of number doubles to 10. Yesterday in PE we starting practicing some of the races for sports day the children can’t wait for you to come and watch them. We have also changed our roleplay areas in our classrooms. Ladybird class have made a flower shop, Bumblebee class have made a beehive and Butterfly class have made a Lego Village. Look out for the link for this week’s handwriting tomorrow. Have a lovely weekend.
Maths word of the week: bottom
Topic word of the week: delicate
We have had a lovely first week back in Year 1 and the children are excited about their new topic. We started the week by discussing what an author is and what they do. We then explained we would be learning about the famous author Julia Donaldson and reading some of her stories. The children knew lots of her stories already! This week we have read The Highway Rat. In maths this week we have been recognising and finding a ¼ of a shape and a quantity. We also made fairy bread to help us recognise equal amounts, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. Our Geography topic this half term starts with looking at the local area and features on a map. We used google maps to find our school.
What a busy first week Year 2 have had back! At the beginning of the week we received a letter from Mrs Padfield asking for help to try and persuade Mrs Boorman to get a school dog or not. We looked at the pros and cons of a school dog and have written to Mrs Boorman with our ideas. We hope she enjoys reading our letters and we look forward to a reply! In maths we have been partitioning numbers in different ways and in the afternoons we started our geography topic by looking at the features of the seaside.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
