This week Year R have been thinking about what a minibeast is.  The children came up with some exciting ideas.  We have made some wonderful creations for Sunday, please check your child’s bookbag.  The children have been working hard getting ready for Sports day. We still have lots of children who aren’t bringing in a sun hat or roll on sun cream. Please ensure your child has sun cream on before school and they will top it up at lunchtime.

Maths word of the week: third

The Year 1 children have thoroughly enjoyed making healthy kebabs this week and cooking them on our outdoor fire. Lots of children tried new food they hadn’t tried before. We all had a fantastic time! In maths the children have been finding out fractions of amounts and using pictures and equipment to help them. Don’t forgot that we will be having an art sale after school on Tuesday- the children have been busy finishing off their sunflower canvas pictures ready for the sale. We are looking forward to starting our new topic next week- Journey’s with Julia Donaldson.  Our word of the week has been protein.

This week in English the Year 2 children finished writing their letters to Rose and they gave her some great advice. In Maths we doubled two-digit numbers using the diamond method. Can your child show you how to do it? In Science we set up a comparative study to investigate whether cress seeds will grow in different conditions and in Geography we used a map to locate different seaside resorts.

General Reminders:

• As the weather warms up and you start to buy sun care products for your family, please be aware that some of these products contain nuts in their ingredients. We have a number of children in school with nut allergies so please check the ingredients list carefully before you make your purchase. We advise parents to apply sun cream before sending your child into school. On really warm days, the children can re-apply using wipes or a roll on sun cream. Please do not send in liquid sun cream.
• Please can we also ask that children are wearing shoes and socks rather than sandals to school as a matter of safety. 
• School dinners – please check that your child likes one of the three options available daily, as we have had some children saying that they can’t pick an option as they don’t like any of them. If they don’t like any option, please provide a packed lunch. The kitchen staff are only able to offer what is on the menu.
• Please DO NOT send your child in to school dosed up on Calpol. If they are unwell they should rest and get better at home. Sending children that are unwell in to school is making some of our staff ill and unable to be in school.
• Head bump letters are changing from red paper to a mustard yellow colour to make them easier to see in book bags.
• The play equipment must not be used before or after school as our insurance is not valid.

• Please remember to update the office if your contact details change. We have had a few cases of having wrong addresses where parents have forgotten to tell us they have moved! We also need to see proof of new address for our records.  You can send an email to parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk or click the link and complete pupil change of details form https://www.hwis.hants.sch.uk/general-forms/

• Children to come into school wearing their PE kits on the days they have PE (Year R – Thurs, Year 1 – Mon & Wed, Year 2 – Tues & Thurs).
• We are a nut free school but are also becoming a shellfish free school due to staff and child allergies. Please do not send shellfish or nut products within your child’s packed lunch.
• HC3S have launched a parent portal where they can register children needing special school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically.  If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information in Letters Home
• If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
