The charity Spotlight have had a number of families contact them to say they are really struggling with cost of living crisis. They currently refer a lot of families to three local companies who have offered free consultations for families to see if they can offer any discounts and hopefully save families money.
If anyone would like a free consultation with any of them, please get in touch with them and mention Spotlight for a free consultation.
They are Shane Livingstone from Youngstone Financial Services who specialises in mortgages and insurances, Adrian Russell from Webster Associates who offers financial advice and Tricia Turner from Utility Warehouse who can hopefully help save money on your household bills. Contact details are enclosed on the fliers attached.
This week in Year R we have been practicing for Sports Day the children can’t wait for you to watch them next Friday. We had a lovely time visiting QMC looking for minibeasts and making our own ladybird lifecycle. Our canvases are now finished and will be on sale for £5 (cash only) on Tuesday after school. Please come along and see our art galleries. Enjoy the sunshine.
Maths word of the week: identify
Topic word of the week: behind
In Year 1 we have had lovely weather again this week and the children have been enjoying their time in the sunshine. In English we have been writing setting descriptions for The Highway Rat. The children have been using prepositions and adjectives to describe a forest setting. In maths we have been learning about place value to 100. The children have been partitioning 2 digit numbers into tens and ones. We have been lucky enough this week to have Mrs Lambell’s husband talk to us about architecture. The children have been able to design their own floor plans and have completed engineering challenges.
The word of the week is route.
This week Year 2 received a letter from Mrs Boorman to ask them if they could write instructions for how to wash a dog to help with her decision for whether we should get a school dog or not. The children have made their instructions very detailed and have even tried to add some humour to make Mrs Boorman laugh. In Maths the children have learnt about position, direction and movement. They’ve been following and using words such as left, right, above and below. They also used the compass directions of North, South, East and West to try to find treasure on a treasure map. In Science they looked at the life cycle of sunflower plants and in Geography they considered the differences between physical and manmade features of seasides.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
