Letters Home (https://www.hwis.hants.sch.uk/letters-home/):
This half term has passed as quickly as ever with lots of learning and activities being completed. Thank you for your incredible support at the Easter Egg Hunt – the children (and staff) had an amazing time. A BIG THANK YOU to the FOHWIS for organising everything. A total of £904.90 was raised – WOW!!!!! Outdoor Learning day was another great success despite the windy weather.
Year R went on a trip to Milestones last week and Year 1 went to the farm on Tuesday and had a wonderful time. We were very proud to get feedback from other adults about their impeccable manners and behaviour!!
Parking concerns have again been raised with cars being parked at the end of Hatch Warren Lane. Please consider using the Park and Stride offer of parking in the Portsmouth Arms car park and walking to and from school.
Head bump letters are changing from red paper to a mustard yellow colour to make them easier to see in book bags.
Reminder to join us at Happy’s Circus on 5th May. Please click on the link to book your tickets: https://friends-of-hatch-warren-infant-school.sumup.link Please complete using your child’s name.
Updated guidance from the government says that anyone with a positive Covid test will be advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 5 days, which is when they are the most infectious. You will be aware that the universal offer of free Covid testing comes to an end today but we ask that, where possible, parents test their children if they are showing signs of Covid.
Government advice currently indicates that children who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with people where possible. Children can return to school when they no longer have a high temperature and are well enough to attend. This will hopefully minimise the spread of the virus and help us to keep our school community safe. Please do not send children in if they are unwell and if they have had Calpol. We thank you in advance for your support!

Year R thoroughly enjoyed their visit from the ducklings this week, which fitted nicely with our R.E topic of new life. Outdoor learning day was a great success. The children loved planting their sunflowers and we can’t wait to see who grows the biggest one (see letter in the mailing). The children have been exploring the related subtraction facts to ten.
Word of the Week: dangerous
Maths Word of the Week: later
The Year 1 children have had a very exciting week! On Tuesday they thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the farm- ask them about the tractor ride! It was very bumpy! In writing, the children wrote a recount about their trip to the farm. They used time words, the past tense and adjectives to describe their day. The writing was fantastic. On Thursday the children took part in outdoor learning day – we all had lots of fun learning outside even though it was a little windy. In DT, the children have made moving pictures using either a slider or a leaver. They were fantastic.
This week the Year 2 children planned and wrote their own endings for the Dreamgiver story before they watched the actual ending. In Maths we learnt about 3D shapes and made our own 3D shapes from cocktail sticks and marshmallows. In Science, we learnt about medicines and in PSHE we thought about growing up and the changes we might experience as we get older. On Thursday we had lots of fun completing outdoor learning activities, even though it was a bit windy!

HC3S have launched a parent portal where they can register children needing special school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information in Letters Home
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
Have a lovely weekend. J
Take care and stay safe.
