We were disappointed to postpone the phonics event from yesterday. We would like to some feedback to establish how we can make these sorts of events more accessible to more parents/carers to enable you to support your children further at home. Please take the time to click on the link and let us know your thoughts. Information evening feedback
What a busy week in Year R. The children all made their own Superhero on Monday and have enjoyed roleplaying with them in the classroom and outside. We had a wonderful trip to KidZania and the children were a real credit to you all. The children had such good fun with lots of new experiences and role playing lots of people who help us. Butterflies had a lovely walk to Asda and have enjoyed cooking their hot dogs on the fire.
Maths Word of the Week: less
Word of the Week: brave
We have had another busy week in Year 1. The children have been re writing a story by Oliver Jeffers called How to Catch a Star. We have been talking about how stories have a beginning, middle and end. Ask them to re-tell the story for you. In maths we have been looking at greater than and less than symbols to compare teens numbers. We were very impressed with what the children remembered from last time when we looked at 1 digit numbers. In DT we have designed and cut our felt ready for sewing our aliens next week. We finished the week with our charter treats, which has been a lovely way to end another busy week.
This week Year 2 received a video message from Ken and Iain from Openbox asking us for our help. They had forgotten all the Great Fire of London facts that they had passed on to us so wanted to know if we would write information leaflets about the Great Fire of London that they could take to other schools to share with other children. We were happy to oblige so this week we started writing our very important information leaflets. In Maths we have moved on to our new topic of money. We have been naming coins, thinking about the value of different coins and have started to make amounts in different ways. In Science we completed a science experiment to find out if we can change the shape of different materials and objects by twisting, squashing, bending and stretching them.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
