There is a menu change next week Wednesday and Thursday's lunch options have swapped. The school lunch option on Wednesday will be Red – Roast chicken with a Yorkshire pudding and Green - Quorn chicken pieces in a Yorkshire pudding. Thursday will by Red -Bubble salmon and Green – Pizza. On Thursday we have to complete a census in school for how many children have a school dinner that day. This data is used to calculate the amount of funding (in part) that the school receives. Please encourage your child to have a school dinner as this would really help the school, Thank you.
Reminder to all Year 2 parents that you need to apply on line with Hampshire County council for your child's Year 3 place by 15th January 2023.
The children in Year R have been thinking all about Superheroes this week. They have painted a picture of a Superhero and thought carefully about it’s super power. They have written a speech bubble to go on the display in our classrooms. The children enjoyed doing Yoga this week as we could not do our outdoor games sessions due to the weather. Bumblebee class had great fun walking to Asda and cooking on the fire.
We have had a number of children arrive at school today for Fab Funky Friday wearing clothes that are unsuitable for the activities. Please ensure all children have long trousers/leggings, trainers or welly boats and layers that will keep them warm as they are outside. Thank you.
We had an amazing day in Year 1 on Tuesday at the Winchester Science Centre. We had a workshop and made rockets to launch, explored the activities within the centre and visited the planetarium. It was fantastic and the children have learnt a lot about Space! When we got back we wrote a recount of our day and remembered a lot of exciting things. In maths we have been putting missing numbers on number lines and estimating where different numbers should go. In Science we have been exploring pushes and pulls and used the scooters and outside equipment to help us. In Art and DT we have been designing an alien that we will make and sew out of felt and other materials this half term. The words of the week is universe.
This week in Year 2 we have learnt lots of information about the Great Fire of London. We also had a great visit from Ken and Iain from Openbox and enjoyed making bread to bring home. In Maths we have learnt about the properties of 3D shapes. We made shapes out of marshmallows and cocktail sticks, then polydron and playdough. We also went on a 3D shape hunt around the school to find as many different 3D shapes as we could. In Science we have been learning about the different uses of common materials such as paper, cardboard, wood, glass, plastic and rock. We went on a hunt outside to discover what the different materials are used for in our school grounds. In Music we used instruments to demonstrate different dynamics and in PE we learnt different gymnastic shapes and thought about how we can use these shapes to create different balances and sequences.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
