We have had a lot of illness in school over the past two weeks and have had to send children home who have been unwell with temperatures as well sickness.  Please understand that we have to do this to try to keep the school community as well as we can and also ensure the children have time to recover. We understand that it can be frustrating but we have their wellbeing at the heart of things.

As the weather warms up and you start to buy sun care products for your family, please be aware that some of these products contain nuts in their ingredients. We have a number of children in school with nut allergies so please check the ingredients list carefully before you make your purchase. We advise parents to apply sun cream before sending your child into school. On really warm days, the children can re-apply using wipes or a roll on sun cream. Please do not send in liquid sun cream.

Please can we also ask that although it is now summer term, it is important that children are wearing shoes and socks rather than sandals to school as a matter of safety.

This week Year R having been learning all about Mary Anning.  The children had great fun exploring the history box all about her and learning about how fossils are made.  In maths we have been thinking about one more and one less than a given number, please can you practice this at home with your children to ensure they are confident with one more and less than a given number to 10.

Word of the Week: fierce.

Maths Word of the Week: half.

The Year 1 children have been finding out about Castles this week and have come up with some questions. They are looking forward to finding out the answers. In maths the children have continued to learn about multiplication and have been using arrays to solve simple problems. The children have been looking at 3 Queens from 3 different eras and putting them in timeline order. They noticed lots of similarities and differences between Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. The words of the week are ramparts and demanded.

This week, Year 2 finished writing their newspaper articles linked to the book 'Journey' by Aaron Becker. We certainly have some budding journalists in our classes! In Maths, we used unstructured number lines to solve subtraction questions. We also learnt how to use the inverse operation to solve missing number problems. In History we started learning about Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Can your child tell you any facts about him?

General Reminders:

• Please DO NOT send your child in to school dosed up on Calpol. If they are unwell they should rest and get better at home. Sending children that are unwell in to school is making some of our staff ill and unable to be in school.
• Head bump letters are changing from red paper to a mustard yellow colour to make them easier to see in book bags.
• Please be aware that school finishes at 2.15pm on Thursday 21^st July 2022 – this is a change due to the extra bank holiday in May half term for the Queen’s jubilee. School staff are owed a day in lieu of this.
• The play equipment must not be used before or after school as our insurance is not valid.

• Please remember to update the office if your contact details change. We have had a few cases of having wrong addresses where parents have forgotten to tell us they have moved! We also need to see proof of new address for our records.  You can send an email to parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk or click the link and complete pupil change of details form https://www.hwis.hants.sch.uk/general-forms/

• Children to come into school wearing their PE kits on the days they have PE (Year R – Thurs, Year 1 – Mon & Wed, Year 2 – Tues & Thurs).
• Please park considerately around the local area. We have sadly received several complaints from residents whose drive ways have been blocked.
• We are a nut free school but are also becoming a shellfish free school due to staff and child allergies. Please do not send shellfish or nut products within your child’s packed lunch.
• Red head bump letters – these will be in children’s book bags when they come home. If it is a major bump, you will receive a phone call to explain what has happened.

HC3S have launched a parent portal where they can register children needing special school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically.  If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information in Letters Home
