Today we have had an amazing day in school for Disability awareness Day. The Year 2 children were able to sit in a wheelchair and try and navigate through the school, realising how difficult it can be to open doors and not be able to use the stairs. Year R and 1 had a visit from a Guide Dog and Hearing assist Dog. A big thank you for all your very generous donations. Once the money has been counted we will let you know how much you raised.
Following the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria this week we are looking at do something after half term to help raise money. We have families in our school community who have been affected and our thoughts are will all those families affected.
We have been awarded the Modeshift star Gold for all our work towards improving travel for the children in school. A big THANK YOU to Mrs Mackenzie and the WOW ambassadors.
The children in Year R have had great fun this week hunting for robbers in the playground and writing down the items they had stolen! In maths this week we have been looking at the number 9 and the children have made their own number walls. Today we had a visit from Carrie who is in training to be a Guide Dog and her handler Ellen. We loved learning all about Guide dogs. We have also completed tasks in the classroom wearing blindfolds. We hope you have a lovely half term and look forward to seeing you back at school!
Word of the week: hard
Maths word of the week: corner
We have had enjoyed learning about planets in Year 1 this week and have been writing fact files about our chosen planet. In maths we have been learning how to subtract on a number line. We have also been looking at fact families and the relationship between addition and subtraction. In art we have created our own planets by colour mixing. We are very much looking forward to learning about farms next half term!
This week Year 2 looked at a book called Tuesday by David Wiesner. The book is a picture book about flying frogs who get up to mischief but it doesn’t have many words in it so we wrote really interesting sentences to retell some of our favourite parts of the story. In maths we have been learning about multiplication and we used arrays to solve multiplication questions. Can your child show you what an array is? In the afternoons we learnt about recycling and sorted items into the appropriate recycling bins. We also used musical instruments to compose and perform our very own ‘Great Fire of London’ piece of music which depicted different parts of the historical event.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
