This week in Year R we have been looking at artefacts from Washdays in the past. We thought really carefully about what they could have been used for and had great fun roleplaying washing in the past. We all agreed that washing today is much easier than it was before electricity was invented. We have also added watercolours to our sketches from last week and the grown-ups can’t wait to see them on display in the corridor. We are working hard on our Christmas play and have had fun practicing it on the stage this week. We can’t wait for you to see it.
Maths Word of the Week: tall
Word of the Week: fabric
The children in Year 1 have been busy practising their parts in the Christmas plays and have been very excited to see the stage up! We can’t wait to show you how hard they have been working. In English the children have created their own candy land and written simple sentences. In maths the children have been learning and working out subtraction facts to 10 using their number bond knowledge and 10s frames. In Geography the children have been flying to 3 different continents to find out more about them- ask them where they have been!
This week in Year 2 we started our Christmas Play rehearsals and the children are working hard to learn their lines. We would be very grateful if you could also practise your child’s lines at home so they can become more confident with them. Please encourage your child to say their lines from memory, in a loud and clear voice. We are not going to send home new spellings on Monday so the children can focus on learning their lines instead. There has been a lot of excitement about our new visitors this week– penguins! They were first spotted in the school grounds and our role play area and now they have made their way to our classrooms. We decided we should probably learn about penguins and the Antarctic to try to find out where they’ve come from and what they might be doing here! We’ve also started making our very own penguins out of clay. Our new topic in Maths is 2D shape so we have been making sure we know the names of 2D shapes and have been describing the properties of the shapes.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
