Welcome back and Happy New Year to you all.
Could we please ask you to look at the online games and programmes that some of the children are playing and consider if they are age appropriate e.g Fortnite is for 13 years +.
Reminder that dogs are not permitted on the playground and please do not put sweets or chocolate in your child’s packed lunch box.
The Year R children have settled in well after the Christmas break. We have been finding out all about Winter and the children completed their first piece of writing. We were very impressed with them all and their knowledge about Winter. In math’s this week we have been subitising to five and learning all about zero. Ladybird Class and Bumblebee Class have learnt how to strike a fire this week and Butterfly Class will be doing this next Friday in Fab Funky Friday. Ladybird Class have also cooked hot dogs on the fire after some of the children visited Asda yesterday to buy the ingredients and stopped off at the park for a play.
In Year 1 we have had a lovely first week back and the children have been working really hard to get back into routine. In English we have been retelling the story of Whatever Next. We acted out the story and ordered the events of a story hill. In maths the children have been looking at place value to 20 and using equipment to solve problems. We are looking forward to our school trip on Tuesday and learning more about our new topic this half term. The word of the week is planets.
Year 2 have had a busy week back in school. We have been writing a recount of a day in the Christmas holidays and trying to make the writing really exciting by adding in extra details. In maths we have started learning about 3D shapes and their properties. We also had a very exciting trip to QMC where we learnt about animals and their habitats, we looked at minibeasts and then looked at food chains. We have started to learn about the Great Fire of London ready for our visit from Openbox next Thursday.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
