This week in Year R we have had great fun looking at ourselves in mirrors and starting our self portraits, on Monday we will be adding the detail to our paintings. In Maths we have been subitising (subitising is being able to visually see a number of objects instantly without needing to count them out one at a time) with numbers 1, 2 and 3. The children enjoyed sorting buttons this week and thinking about what the sorting rule was eg. They have two holes, four holes, they are pink.
Maths Word of the Week: last
Topic Word of the Week: celebration
In Year 1 the children have been creating their own pirate maps this week with their own symbols and keys. Ask them what they put on their pirate map. In maths the children have been learning to subitise and recognise different amounts without having to count them. We were very impressed. In science the children have been matching objects to the material they are made out of. The word of the week is enough
This week Year 2 visited the Living Rainforest. We had a great time and learnt lots of new facts. The staff there were very impressed with the knowledge the children already had and we were very proud of how well the children behaved and interacted during the activities. In English we have been writing a non-chronological report all about ourselves and in Maths we are using number lines to solve addition calculations. In Science we went searching for minibeasts in different microhabitats and used tallies to record what we found. In Music we used different instruments to explore beats and rhythms. We sounded like a professional orchestra when we all played together!

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
