A huge thank you to everyone who came to our Science under the stars evening last night, we hope you all had as much fun as we did. A big thank you to Mrs Page for organising the event.
Thank you to those parents/carers that gave feedback regarding curriculum presentations and increasing engagement. The majority of responses indicated that you would prefer to receive a recording that you are able to watch in your own time. The phonics presentation will be recorded and hopefully be available in Spring 2. The Maths sessions that were planned for next week will be recorded and emailed out to you for your information. They will also both be saved on the website.
Wow, what an amazing week in Year R! We have been so lucky to have two visitors in school this week. Jodie the dental nurse and Mikey and his Fire Fighting Crew. The children had great fun learning all about how to keep their teeth healthy and what it takes to be a fire fighter. Ladybird class enjoyed cooking waffles on the fire.
Maths Word of the Week: after
Word of the Week: helpful
The children in Year 1 have been learning about the first Lunar landing this week. They were very excited to see a video of the Saturn V rocket taking off and have already learnt many facts about the Apollo 11 mission. Just ask them! In maths the children have been learning their number bonds to 20 and working them out systematically using 20s frames and bar models. The children have been very excited to sew their aliens- thank you to the parents who came in and helped.
This week in Year 2 we continued our Great Fire of London information leaflets for Ken and Iain. We have been so impressed with the children’s knowledge. In Maths we have been making amounts using different combinations of coins. You could continue to practise this at home if you like. In Science we conducted an experiment to investigate the suitability of different material spoons for different purposes. We realised that chocolate spoons aren’t very good for stirring warm water! Next Tuesday we have our parent participation event from 9am to 10.30am. If you would like to come but haven’t completed the form, please speak to your child’s class teacher as we need to know who is coming in advance. Thank you.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
