Mailing for 18th March 2022
Letters Home (https://www.hwis.hants.sch.uk/letters-home/):
We are already half way through this half tem – time flies when you’re having fun! There were lots of children and staff in non-uniform to support the Red Nose Day cause. We managed to raise £192.21 so thank you for your contributions.
The office staff have been inundated recently with emails asking about day to day class based events. A thank you to those parents that check these queries on the door with the class staff or use the website. Please be aware that Parentmail, our email system, is checked a few times during the day so it is not always possible to provide a quick reply.
If you have permission to use our carpark, can we please ask that you drive slowly and carefully, we had another close call recently, where a car pulled into a space quickly and the front of the car encroached onto the path area, causing alarm.

Year R have been learning all about the Gingerbread Man this week. The children have had great fun learning the story and acting it out and investigating what would have happened if the Gingerbread Man swam across the river. They have been thinking about their number bonds to five and are bringing home a five frame and five Gingerbread Men. We have sent home a link to our YouTube site with ideas for how to use these at home to learn all the number facts to five. Have fun!
Word of the Week: smooth
Maths Word of the Week: less
Year 1 have been writing the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. They have changed what he has been eating and practicing their days of the week. In maths the children have been counting in steps of ten. They have been amazing. In Science the children have been looking at growing and changing. The words of the week are hay bale and replies.
In Year 2 we watched a funny video called Little Wolf. It’s a story but it has no words or narration so we are writing the text for it. So far we have written the opening, build up and problem. We also learnt how to use speech marks for speech. In Maths we have been telling the time to o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Can your child tell you the time at different times throughout the day? In Science we started our new topic about healthy living and learnt about the different food groups.

General News and Information:
Please be advised that DFE guidance informs us that if a child displays any coronavirus symptom (cough, temperature or loss of taste/smell), we must send the child home and ask them to follow the guidance and get them a PCR test. The child must isolate until a negative result is given when they are able to return to school if they are well enough. If the result is positive they must isolate for 10 days but can return to school if they have a negative LFD test on days 5 and 5 and do not have a temperature.
Remember that LFD testing is for people who are asymptomatic. If anyone within your household develops symptoms, you must book at PCR test by either phoning 119 or booking online: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

HC3S have launched a new parent portal where they can register children needing special school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information in Letters Home
Please remember to update the office if your contact details change. We have had a few cases of having wrong addresses where parents have forgotten to tell us they have moved! You can send an email to parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk or click the link and complete pupil change of details form https://www.hwis.hants.sch.uk/general-forms/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
Have a lovely weekend. J
Take care and stay safe.
