This week Year R have been thinking all about special clothes. The children have designed outfits for a party and collaged uniforms and outfits for different jobs or sports. Today we have been thinking all about disability awareness. In particular visual impairment. The children have carried out day to day activities like name writing and FMS activities whilst wearing blindfolds. We have also been looking at how guide dogs support people who are visually impaired. If your child has come home with a spelling book today, please can you practice the words on a separate piece of paper and do not write in the school books. Please ensure the children have their spelling books in their book bags every day. We have also put some extra sounds in Fluffy word boxes for your child to practice over half term.
This week the Year 1 children have had a very exciting week and we were all very impressed with the children’s space and alien costumes on Alien day. The children enjoyed decorating their alien cuddly toy and making alien and planet biscuits. In maths the children have been learning to add small numbers using equipment and counting on from the largest number. Ask them to show you how to count on. We also looked at hearing impairment on disability and inclusion day and the children have all learnt to sign their name. The star words of the week are satellite and jetty.
On Monday, Year 2 had a visit from Paul Hay who talked to us about internet safety and on Thursday we had our disability day where we thought about how we are all different but equally as special and wonderful. In Maths we have continued our work on fractions and have begun to calculate fractions of quantities. In English we have been learning how to answer reading comprehension questions effectively. We hope you all have a wonderful half term break and look forward to seeing you when you return.

General News and Information:
Please be advised that DFE guidance informs us that if a child displays any coronavirus symptom (cough, temperature or loss of taste/smell), we must send the child home and ask them to follow the guidance and get them a PCR test. The child must isolate until a negative result is given when they are able to return to school if they are well enough. If the result is positive they must isolate for 10 days but can return to school if they have a negative LFD test on days 5 and 5 and do not have a temperature.
Remember that LFD testing is for people who are asymptomatic. If anyone within your household develops symptoms, you must book at PCR test by either phoning 119 or booking online: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

HC3S have launched a new parent portal where they can register children needing special school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information in Letters Home
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
Have a lovely half term break. J
Take care and stay safe.
