Mailing for 11th February 2022
Letters Home (https://www.hwis.hants.sch.uk/letters-home/):
Thankfully, the number of positive Covid cases across school is reducing in children and staff. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance as well as increased testing. As we have said before, we are doing everything we can to keep children in school. We are very much aware of the likely revised Government plans that may be implemented 24th February 2022 and we will revise and share our risk assessment prior to the children returning to school after half term. Brighter days are coming!!
We have a huge amount of unnamed lost property in school. Weather permitting, on Wednesday 16th February we are going to put this out on a table at the bottom of the path leading to the school office. Please do have a look if you think you may be missing some items.

This week Year R had a visit from Mrs Goddard who talked to us about the volunteer work she does for Lowland Rescue. The children have been thinking about what they would like to be when they are older and produced some beautiful pictures and writing. We have been enjoying looking at your children’s diary’s and can’t wait to see your emergency vehicles next week. Please also remember to send in your child’s photo in their special clothes for Monday. Thank you.
This week the Year 1 children have been using their knowledge of number bonds to 20 to work out the related subtraction facts. They can now show their understanding confidently using a number of different models. Just ask them! In English the children have been learning about planets and the Solar System and have made fact files comparing Earth and Saturn. They have found out some very interesting facts. The children have all enjoyed their well-deserved Charter treats today and we are already looking forward to thinking about what we can do for the next ones. The star words of the week are Solar System and shore.
This week Year 2 finished off our Great Fire of London topic by designing and making our own Tudor houses to recreate Pudding Lane in school. We then set fire to the bakery and watched what happened. The fire spread from one house to the next. Once the fire seemed to have been put out, a small ember that was still alight restarted the fire, just like it did during the Great Fire of London! In Maths, we have been learning about fractions of shapes and in English we have used the story of Vlad and the Great Fire to develop our reading comprehension skills. In the afternoons we learnt about John McAdam (the inventor of macadamisation), we used percussion instruments to create our own musical story and we talked about the NSPCC underwear rule.

General News and Information:
Please be advised that DFE guidance informs us that if a child displays any coronavirus symptom (cough, temperature or loss of taste/smell), we must send the child home and ask them to follow the guidance and get them a PCR test. The child must isolate until a negative result is given when they are able to return to school if they are well enough. If the result is positive they must isolate for 10 days but can return to school if they have a negative LFD test on days 5 and 5 and do not have a temperature.
Remember that LFD testing is for people who are asymptomatic. If anyone within your household develops symptoms, you must book at PCR test by either phoning 119 or booking online: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

HC3S have launched a new parent portal where they can register children needing special school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information in Letters Home
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
Have a lovely weekend. J
Take care and stay safe
