Hope you all had a lovely Half Term. At this moment in time we are not anticipating school being closed on the 2nd March for the Teachers Striking although if this changes we will notify you as soon as we can. Next week on Thursday 2nd March is World Book Day, all children can come to school dressed as their favourite book character or in their PJ’s. If school closed due to the Teacher Strike we will have Dress up day for World Book Day on a different date. Details for Parents Evening will follow shortly for booking appointments. Please note parents evening is no longer next week so Choir and Art club will be on for those children in those clubs.
Thank you to all those who took part in the WOW Design a Badge Competition. We had over 50 entries. On Tuesday the WOW Ambassadors met to decide a winner from each year group. The winning entries have now been sent off to the main competition. So well done to our winners:
Year R: Jake Cooper
Year 1: Mabel Lake
Year 2: Ella Webb
This week in Year R we have been thinking about special clothes. We have designed our own special clothes and written about ourselves when we have been wearing our special clothes. We have been thinking about when we might wear special clothes. Today we have had a visit from the author Eileen Browne the children thoroughly enjoyed their workshop with her. Where she shared some of the stories she had written and demonstrated how she completed the illustrations. We have also had great fun with our new cardio drumming sessions.
Maths word of the week: side
Word of the week: soft
We have had a lovely first week back in Year 1. In English we have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar and re writing the middle of the story using adjectives to describe the food that he eats. We have also been working hard to remember to use Capital letters when writing days of the week. In maths we have been beginning to look at numbers to 50 and understanding that numbers like 30 ones and 3 tens are the same. We have also started our new topic looking at farms including animals and humans in science. The word of the week is combine harvester.
Welcome back! We hope you had a good week off. This week Year 2 continued their work on multiplication and looked at the commutativity law. Can your child explain to you what commutative means? Our focus in English was reading comprehension and the children answered questions about different fiction and non-fiction texts. In Science we began our ‘Healthy Living’ topic by learning about the Eatwell plate and the different food groups. In Music we used xylophones to demonstrate pitch and then played the musical accompaniment for a funny song.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
