What an eventful week! The children in Year R have really embraced book week and loved learning all about Handa’s Surprise. We can’t wait to see the whole school display go up in the hall. Thank you to those adults who have given up their time to read stories to the children at the end of the day. It was so lovely to see all the children dressed up on Thursday and again thank you for supporting this event. We are looking forward to learning all about Goldilocks and the Three Bears next week. Have a lovely weekend.
Word of the week: rough
Math’s word of the week: front
The children in Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed book week! Thank you to all of the parents who came in and read with the children at the end of each day. It has been lovely for the children to have a range of adults reading to them. This week the children have been tasting the fruits from the story Handa’s surprise and using adjectives to describe them. Ask them which was their favourite. In maths we have been continuing place value to 50 and using part part wholes and numberlines to support their understanding of tens and ones. We have been using Handa’s surprise to theme art work this week and have been continuing different animal prints using different art materials and using paper to weave baskets for Handa’s fruit. The word of the week is hay bale.
Following our visit from author Eileen Browne last Friday, In Year 2 we decided to spend time looking at one of her books in more detail. We chose Handa’s Surprise and started the week by doing some hot seating and drama in the roles of Handa and the animals. We then planned and wrote a letter to Handa from the perspective of one of the animals. We also produced some beautiful African animal artwork using cotton buds and paint. In Maths we used our knowledge of multiplication to solve different types of problems. Thank you to the parents who were able to come in to share a story with the children at the end of the day. The children really enjoyed having you with us.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
