This week in Year R we have been thinking all about different Minibeasts and where they like to live. We have been finding out fun facts about them. The children have been looking for Minibeasts in the STEM area. We hope this has inspired them for their talkbook challenge this week. We have been practicing really hard for sports day and the children had an amazing time this morning. Have a lovely weekend.
Maths word of the week: out
Topic word of the week: examine
We have has another lovely week in Year 1. This week we read Sugarlump and the unicorn, which is another story by Julia Donaldson. The unicorn grants wishes so we decided to write some of our own. Ask your children what they wished for. In maths we have continued learning about place value to 100. We have been comparing numbers and looking at the tens and ones digits. We are very excited for our fire week next week!
This week Year 2 had lots of fun in Maths solving a real life problem with skittles. The Year 2 teachers realised that different packets of jelly tots had a different number of sweets and that the quantity of different colours in each pack was also different. So we decided to investigate this further to see if it would be the same situation with skittles. Each child had a packet of skittles and had to sort them into coloured groups, complete a frequency table, transfer the information onto a block graph and then interpret the data to answer questions. We have also been busy learning our songs for the leavers assembly and practising our sports day events. In PSHE we thought about how to solve disputes in a calm and sensible manner.

General News and Information:
If your child does not eat certain foods due to religion reasons or personal preference, please ensure they know what lunch option they are choosing every day before they come in to book it on the whiteboard. There have been a few occasions when children have inadvertently selected the wrong meal choice. Children with allergies are identified by wearing a different coloured wrist band and have their meals cooked according to their special menu.
HC3S have a parent portal where they can register children needing special allergy school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information by clicking on: https://specialdiets.hants.gov.uk/
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
