Mailing for 28th January 2022
Letters Home (https://www.hwis.hants.sch.uk/letters-home/):
Sadly, the number of positive Covid cases across school is continuing to increase but thankfully most people seem not to be as unwell as with the previous variants. Thank you for your continued support and vigilance as well as increased testing. As we have said before, we are doing everything we can to keep children in school. If staffing absence continues to deteriorate, we may have to look carefully at our ratio’s and make alternative plans. Please be assured, this would be a last resort as we know the children have already missed out on so much.
Thank you for contributing towards the UK’s first ever 999 Cenotaph last term. We raised £99.43 towards this worthy charity.
Brighton Hill Roundabout Footway Diversions and Bus Stop Suspension
Please see the link which has details of the current pedestrian diversion in place at Brighton Hill Roundabout: https://sway.office.com/zeUr1B8bNXYEdXIo?ref=Link
Importantly, the ongoing improvement works will also affect the bus stop on the eastern side of the A30 Winchester Road at the Brighton Hill Retail Park. This bus stop will not be in use from Monday 31st January onwards. Bus passengers are being advised to use the bus stops at Cobbett Green or Sullivan Road Surgery.

This week the Year R children have had a visit from some fire fighters and a fire engine. The children had great fun seeing how far they could squirt the water … even Mrs Way had a turn! The children made their own fire pictures using tin foil and paint. Please remember to login to Bug Club to read your phonics book. Each week we add three new books that relate to the sounds we are learning in class. The children have been enjoying playing phonics bloom games www.phonicsbloom.com. Word of the week next week is helpful and the maths word of the week is around. We are running very low on spare clothes for Year R, please can we ask that any borrowed clothes be returned so that these are available when needed. If you have any spare clothes you would like to donate, these would be most appreciated.
This week the children in Year 1 have been learning about the first moon landing. They have learnt lots of facts- ask them what they have found out. We are looking forward to learning more about amazing astronauts next week. In maths the children have been using their knowledge of measure to problem solve. They have helped the smartest giant in town to get some new clothes and measures them to ensure they were the correct size. The star words of the week are astronaut and gasped.
This week Year 2 have continued writing their information leaflets all about the Great Fire of London for Ken and Iain to share with children at other schools. We think they will be very impressed! In maths we have moved on to division and have learnt that we can divide numbers by sharing or grouping. In the afternoons we used paint and black paper to create amazing Great Fire of London silhouette artwork, we conducted a science experiment to see how we can change the shape of different objects and we have been learning about dynamics in music.

General News and Information:
Please be advised that DFE guidance informs us that if a child displays any coronavirus symptom (cough, temperature or loss of taste/smell), we must send the child home and ask them to follow the guidance and get them a PCR test. The child must isolate until a negative result is given when they are able to return to school if they are well enough. If the result is positive they must isolate for 10 days but can return to school if they have a negative LFD test on days 6 and 7.
And do not have a temperature.
Remember that LFD testing is for people who are asymptomatic. If anyone within your household develops symptoms, you must book at PCR test by either phoning 119 or booking online: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
HC3S have launched a new parent portal where they can register children needing special school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information in Letters Home
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
Have a lovely weekend. J
Take care and stay safe.
