Meet the Governors

Meet the Governors - Who are they and what do they do?

The Governing Body

Our Governing Body is made up of volunteers who are appointed for a period of four years. Hatch Warren Infant School governors are often in school, formally and informally keeping in touch with all aspects of school life. They are happy to discuss any queries you may have and welcome feedback from parents.

The full Governing Body meets together monthly to discuss curriculum, finance, personnel and buildings matters.

The Governors produce newsletters throughout the year. These provide an excellent opportunity for everyone involved with the school to celebrate its achievements.

At Hatch Warren Infant School we pride ourselves on having a dedicated and committed Governing Body. All Governors work to ensure the effective management of the School and contribute a range of skills from a variety of different backgrounds. All Governors can be contacted via the School Office.

If you are interested in applying to become a school governor or want to find out more, please make contact by emailing parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk.

The Governing Body of Hatch Warren Infant School consists of 12 people made up of people from the following sectors:

  • Elected parents (4)
  • Elected school staff (1)
  • Headteacher (1)
  • Co-opted (5)
  • Representative appointed by the Local Authority (1)

Governors are appointed or elected to work along side the Headteacher to help develop the long term strategic direction of the school and ensure the school is accountable for its actions. The relationship between the Governing Body and the Headteacher is one of support and challenge.

Governors discuss and have input on some of the following:

  • School policies
  • Long term plans and the future of the school
  • How the school budget will be spent
  • How the school will try to reach performance targets
  • The appointment and dismissal of staff
  • Complaints from pupils, staff & parents
  • Repair and maintenance of school buildings
  • The quality of provision for all children

The work of the governing body is split into sub committees as well as whole governing body meetings. As Chair of Governors I try and write to you at least once a term to keep you updated on our work.

If anyone is interested in becoming a Governor or knowing more about the role please contact the school.

Kind regards

Karen Wills/Mike Randall - Co-chairs of Governors

Flavia Coleman ~ Clerk to Governing Body

Governors Vision and Values Statement

The governors aim to work in partnership with others at Hatch Warren Infants School, to provide an environment within which pupils are able to thrive, develop their true potential and aspire to achieve their potential.

We do this through: offering support:

  • by creating an effective governor team who are enthusiastic and committed to the role of governor ; by promoting opportunities for excellence and enjoyment;
  • by listening and offering advice based on a range of experience and skills;
  • by empathising with others involved and offering inspiration;
  • by listening to what pupils and parents have to say about the school to inform our strategic thinking.

Providing challenge:

  • by being active participants in driving improvement
  • by assisting in identifying the strategic direction needed to improve standards
  • by considering new approaches to teaching and learning and monitoring those adopted, are consistently applied across the school
  • by understanding, monitoring and evaluating initiatives to promote improvement

Being accountable:

  • by accepting the responsibility we have to the wider community including parents, staff and the Local Authority
  • by ensuring the school provides the best possible education and value for money

The aim underlying this vision and values statement forms the basis for the terms of reference of each committee and therefore reflects the agreed purpose of ‘Adding value – Making a difference’.
