PE (Physical Education)

Intent

At Hatch Warren Infant School learning in physical education is underpinned by our school vision and values, the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation guidance.  The children will experience a variety of physical opportunities through PE lessons and lunchtimes.  From our curriculum, pupils will become physically educated through experiencing a range of activities that:

  • Build their confidence and enthusiasm to take part in physical activity
  • Develop competence in a range of movement skills
  • Create learners who demonstrate perseverance and independence when taking on challenges
  • Encourage creative thinking across a variety of activities
  • Show kindness and respect towards each other when working as a team
  • Encourage children to live healthy lives both physically and mentally.

Implementation

PE at Hatch Warren Infant School is an integral part of our curriculum; it is inclusive and engages all pupils by providing challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting opportunities.

  • Children engage in a wide range of inclusive, competitive activities and sports.  A strong emphasis is placed in sportsmanship and teamwork linking to our school values as well as sporting ability.
  • All classes participate in a variety of activities, which support the children to be physically active in the school day.  This includes Cosmic Yoga, Go noodle, just dance and body coach sessions
  • Children are encouraged to take part in games and activities at lunchtime.
  • An annual sports day takes place to educate and promote a healthy lifestyle and physical activity.

Impact

At Hatch Warren Infant our children enjoy PE and develop a love of sport, and physical activity.  They will engage in a wide range of inclusive activities. Children acquire the skills, knowledge and values to achieve their personal best.  Our pupils understand the values and the importance of fair play and being a good sportsperson.  The children will understand how to lead a healthy lifestyle and the importance of exercise for both physical and mental wellbeing.  Our pupils are physically active and this has positive implications on their learning in the classroom.  They will hopefully grow up to live happy and healthy lives utilising the skills and knowledge acquired through PE.
