Mailing for 4th December 2020
We welcome the children to send Christmas cards to children and staff who are part of their year group bubble. Post boxes have been put in the shared areas. We will increase hand washing when these are distributed. Please put the child’s name and class on the envelope. Please ask your child to tuck the envelope flap into the envelope rather than licking it.
If you have any friends or family who have children due to start school in September 2021, please direct them to our website to book a virtual, online tour. There is also a short promotional video to be viewed – we feel it reflects our school environment and the sense of fun we approach learning with.
As you will be aware, we have now come out of ‘lockdown’ and are part of the tier system. To find out what this means and what local restrictions are for Basingstoke and Deane, you can click on the link below. It will direct you to the Government website, which contains the information on what you can and cannot do in each tier: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/local-restriction-tiers-what-you-need-to-know
During these difficult times it can be hard to know where to ask for help. Basingstoke Family Support Service provide free support and advice for families in need. Their Session of Support (SOS) appointments are available over the phone to assist with a concern you need help with. Please see the attached flier for further details. Please note that you will need to ask Miss Hurdle to refer you.
Year R – The children’s marbled Christmas ornaments are available to purchase from the shop for £2.50. They will look beautiful on your Christmas tree.
Christmas play rehearsals have continued and the children are learning how to sign as they sing - just you wait and see. The children have been celebrating the birth of a baby. Jennifer and baby Grace came for a virtual visit. All of the children brought in a baby photo of themselves and they have had great fun playing ‘Who’s under the flap?’ They have been trying to guess whose picture is who. It has been trickier than expected for some of the pictures as they have changed so much.
Year 1 – The children are making Christmas plates and a stocking hanger for you to purchase for £5 through our shop. They will certainly add some festive cheer to your house.
A grotto has appeared in the role play area and the children are certainly good at getting in to role. Their rehearsals have continued this week and we definitely have some talented ‘mover and shakers’, Year 1 have also squeezed in time for some work looking at the properties of 2D shapes and hunting for them in the classroom.
Year 2 – The children are making clocks that can be purchased through the shop for £5. They will look amazing on the wall and will help the children to learn to tell the time.
Last weekend a waddle of penguins arrived at school - much to our surprise! They somehow found their way into our role play area, so we have spent some time learning about penguins. We also read Oliver Jeffers’ book Lost and Found and watched the video version as well. We then planned our own version of the story. In Maths, we learnt how to ‘find the difference’ using different methods, such as practical resources, pictorial representations, number lines and mental strategies. In Science we learned about food chains and in RE the children have made Diva Lamps.
