Letters Home (https://www.hwis.hants.sch.uk/letters-home/):
Christmas has arrived at HWIS!!!! The decorations are up and the children are rehearsing their Christmas class/year group contributions which will be uploaded to a secure YouTube channel. We will send you the link towards the end of term. The children are able to send Christmas cards by putting them in the post boxes in the library. Please put the child’s name and class on the envelope encouraging them to tuck the envelope flap into the envelope rather than licking it.
Christmas decoration payment is now live through School Money:
Thank you for support the ‘Unite the uniforms for a 999 Cenotaph’ fundraising event. It was lovely to see the different colours and uniforms in school. Once we have a final total, we will let you know.

Year 1:
Year 2:
Poor Old Bear has been stuck in the attic. The children have had great fun making plans to rescue him this week. Their plans were successful and Old Bear was caught on the CCTV climbing down the ladders they had made and having great fun jumping on the trampoline. He is so happy to be out of the attic. Well done Year R.
On Wednesday there was a visitor in the Year 1 classrooms. The mischievous Christmas Elf is back! The children are all excited to see what he gets up to leading up to the Christmas break. In Writing the children have been looking at the conjunction ‘and’ and how they can use this word in a sentence. In maths the children have been naming and recognising 3D shapes. It is tricky to remember all of their names, but they have done a fab job! The children have been practicing their singing and trying hard to remember all of the actions for the carols they are learning. The concept word of the week is whole.
We are very excited because this week Year 2 have been joined by some penguins! They were spotted in the playground, in our role play area and then in our classrooms. We don’t know where they’ve come from or why they are here but we hope to find out! We have written some questions for them and have learnt lots of penguin facts. We have also read the story ‘Lost and Found’ and watched the film version to compare and contrast different versions of the same story. In Maths we have been counting in 10s, 2s and 5s to add money and have been using our reasoning skills to solve problems. We have also been busy making clocks and learning Christmas songs!

General News and Information:
Please be advised that DFE guidance informs us that if a child displays any coronavirus symptom (cough, temperature or loss of taste/smell), we must send the child home and ask them to follow the guidance and get them a PCR test. The child must isolate until a negative result is given when they are able to return to school if they are well enough. If the result is positive they must isolate for 10 days.
Remember that LFD testing is for people who are asymptomatic. If anyone within your household develops symptoms, you must book at PCR test by either phoning 119 or booking online: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
HC3S have launched a new parent portal where they can register children needing special school dinner menus directly. This will give parents more control and direct contact with the catering team. You will then need to make an application online for your child to have a special menu and the school will be notified automatically. If you need to apply for a special menu, please see the information in Letters Home
If your child has a change or existing or new medical condition, please inform us by completing the form which is now available on our website: New or Change to Existing Medical Condition Form
We continue to put our children, their parents and our staff at the centre of any decision making to ensure that we keep everyone as safe as we can at this continued tricky time. If you have any feedback as to how this week has been, please let us know via parent.mail@hwis.hants.sch.uk
Have a lovely weekend. J
Take care and stay safe.
