Welcome back for the final half term of the academic year … where has the time gone?? The children enjoyed having their class photos taken on Wednesday. As the weather was nice, we were able to have them taken outside on the field which was lovely. Once the prints come back, they will be put in the classroom window so you can have a sneak preview. Information about how to order them will come out soon.
The children have started their new topics this week and have been learning lots of new and exciting things:
Year R children were surprised to arrive at school to find a giant egg. They have been helping the police with their enquiries by investigating what animal could have laid the egg. This morning, when they arrived at school, they found that the egg had hatched!!! Please keep your eyes open and let us know if you see any unusual animals in the local area.
Year 1 have experienced a cooking week where they have all helped prepare and eat leek and potato soup cooked out on the open fire. They have also been looking at a bird’s eye view school and created a map.
Year 2 have been trying to make decisions as to whether they would enter the tunnel in the story they have read. They have been considering the pros and cons of this and have shared their thoughts with others. They have also been looking at the different parts of plants and trees and labelling these carefully.
On 10th July, Poppy in Hedgehog Class is having her cut and donating it to a charity called The Little Princess Trust who make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer. Poppy has decided to do this herself which shows how kind and thoughtful she is. It costs £550 to make each wig with a fitting cost of £150. Poppy is aiming to raise £550 but it would be great to make it to £700 to pay for the complete process.

We have made the difficult decision that the planned sports day will NOT go ahead on the 24th June or 2nd July because of the uncertainties with the road map and the different variants. We will be running an ‘in-house’ version within ‘year group bubbles’ without having parents attend. We do not feel that we can safely manage the event with lots of adults on site at this time. There will be footage posted of the event onto our secure YouTube channel (only accessible to those with the unique link) after the event. We appreciate that many of you will be saddened by the decision, but as always, we our putting the safety of our school community at the heart of things.
At present, the Year 2 annual leavers event is being planned to go ahead. Further details will become available nearer the time although it will be a smaller scale event that will run outside in classes rather than as a year group. This is also subject to changes made in light of the pandemic.
We are looking at new classes and transition arrangements and have a current plan. The dates for this are listed on the diary dates below. At the moment, we are planning for new class visits to take place including a whole day for Year 2 to visit HWJS. Again, these are all subject to change.
On Thursday 2nd September, we have a planned INSET day so school will remain closed to the children. Following on from the success last year of small group visits after the Summer holiday, we are planning to allocate a set time when the children can visit their new Year 1 and 2 classrooms on Friday 3rd September prior to starting as a whole class on Monday 6th September. We feel that it is important for the children and their parents to have an opportunity to speak with the class staff in an informal way following the 6 week break.

You are able to collect 2 packs of home test kits at a local collection point. Each pack contains 7 tests. These should only be used by adults aged 18 years and over. Most collection points are open from 1.30 – 7pm. You can check online to see if the location is open or busy before you go. You do not need to make an appointment. It is important that you do not visit a collection point outside opening hours, as it may be used to test people with Coronavirus symptoms.
