Personal, Social, Health and Emotional
Intent
Through our curriculum, our school environment, our school ethos and the strengths of our relationships, we strive to promote our pupil’s self-esteem, emotional and physical well-being and help them to form happy and long lasting relationships. We want our pupils to know and understand what constitutes a healthy lifestyle and develop a growing awareness of a broad range of safety issues. In our school the children are able to take risks in a safe environment and develop their growth mindset, allowing them to become resilient and independent learners. Having introduced our children to a wide range of concepts and exposing them to a variety of experiences, we hope they will have a strong understanding of the diverse world around them and be well equipped to take responsibility for their own wellbeing and stay safe in our ever-changing society.
Implementation
At Hatch Warren Infant School, we have taken the decision to implement the Coram Life Education SCARF framework which represents the values for children of Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship. It provides a whole-school approach to building these essential foundations-crucial for children to achieve their best, academically and socially.
SCARF meets all the DFE requirements for statutory Relationships and Health Education and has been mapped to the PSHE Association programmes of study, SCARF is a whole-school framework that supports the delivery of RSHE, PSHE and wellbeing through an approach to promote behaviour, safety, achievement and wellbeing.
The half-termly key themes consist of:
- Me and my Relationships
- Valuing Difference
- Keeping Myself Safe
- Rights and Responsibilities
- Being My Best
- Growing and Changing
Pupils receive a weekly timetabled lesson which follow the topics in a systematic and progressive manner.
Impact
Our children are friendly, confident, kind and respectful to both those familiar to them and those who are not. They have a sound understanding of the meaning and importance of our school values. They are able to persevere when things are new or challenging, understand the importance of rules and are independent. The impact of our PSHE curriculum and our values will teach the children to respect both their peers and adults in school and the wider community. Our children understand the importance of their voice and the voice of others. As a result of what the children learn at Hatch Warren Infant School they will become healthy and responsible members of their local community and be well prepared for the next stage of their journey through are ever-changing society.
